Robert Plant’s New Band of Joy Plot Album Summer Tour
Robert Plant’s New Band of Joy Plot Album, Summer Tour
Led Zeppelin have been turning down festival reunion offers left and right, and now we know why: Robert Plant will hit the road with his resurrected Band of Joy project this summer — and he’s currently recording a new album slated for release in early summer or late fall. The first leg of the 12-date tour kicks off July 13th in Memphis before wrapping up July 31st in Miami; a second leg is scheduled for the fall. As Zep fans probably know, Plant and drummer John Bonham were members of Band of Joy prior to joining Led Zeppelin.
For his new record and tour, Plant has rounded up an ace group of roots musicians and session players: Patty Griffith on vocals, multi-instrumentalist Darrell Scott, guitarist and co-producer Buddy Miller, drummer Marco Giovino and bassist Byron House. “It’s been a blast working on these new songs… and I’m enjoying such creativity and vitality,” Plant said in a statement. “It’s been a remarkable change of direction for all of us and as a group we all seem to have developed a new groove.”
The upcoming release will be Plant’s first LP since 2007’s Raising Sand, his multiplatinum, Grammy-winning collaboration with Alison Krauss. With Krauss busy working on recording and touring with her own band Union Station, Plant doesn’t plan to tour or record with her this year, although he does promise there will be an eventual follow-up to Raising Sand. “Alison and I get together quite often… and sometimes we dance,” Plant added.

(Looks like the tour is a southern one and possibly the Fall one would be for up north? I'm interested to see if he's going to rock harder than he did with Allison Krauss. You got to wonder why Robert just doesn't want to work with Jimmy Page or John Paul Jones but is willing to work with everybody's brother & cousin hmm...could it be he just doesn't want to step into those shoes of yesteryear. Is it that Jimmy is hard to work with, what IS the real reason behind it? Fear of not living up to the legend? In anycase I'm glad he's at least keeping creative but would really love to hear him with Jones and Page at least in album form creating new music, doesn't have to be a tour but create some magic!!)

Hendrix on Top
Jimi Hendrix Debuts Top 5
by Paul Cashmere - March 18 2010
Almost 40 years after his death, Jimi Hendrix is one of the hottest acts on the planet.
The album ‘Valleys of Neptune’, featuring previously unreleased Hendrix material, has debuted Top 5 in the USA with sales of more than 85,000 units in a single week.
The new Hendrix album is the first via the new deal Experience Hendrix, the family company governing the Hendrix catalogue, has done with Sony Music.
‘Valleys of Neptune’ is the first of many new Hendrix albums to be released over the next 10 years. Janie Hendrix, CEO of the company and Jimi’s sister, told Undercover News that Jimi never went anywhere without a recording device and captured everything he did on tape, including rehearsals and shows as well as studio material.
She also tells us that Jimi never played the same song twice, so from the 110 songs in the catalogue there are many times more tracks based on the different versions of songs.
Jimi Hendrix ‘Valleys of Neptune’ will have a Top 5 debut later this week when the official figures are released by SoundScan.

(It's always great to be able to hear stuff from classic rock artists that you never heard finally come out! Sales indicate that people still want to hear from classic rock artists no matter how far into the future it is. Why, because classic rock is just that, classic and today's music can't seem to compare.)

Syd Barrett Tees
Syd Barrett (6 January 1946 – 7 July 2006), born Roger Keith Barrett, was an English singer, songwriter, guitarist and artist. He is most remembered as a founding member of psychedelic rock band Pink Floyd, providing major musical and stylistic direction in their early work, although he left the group in 1968 amidst speculations of mental illness as a consequence of, or exacerbated by, heavy drug use.
Barrett was active as a rock musician for about seven years, recording two albums with Pink Floyd and two solo albums before going into self-imposed seclusion lasting more than thirty years. His post rock-band life was as an artist and a keen gardener, ending with his death in 2006. A number of biographies have been written about him since the 1980s and Pink Floyd wrote and recorded a classic song about him after he left, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" on the 1975 album Wish You Were Here.

Metallica Extravaganza Shows For 2011
Metallica Plot Massive Live Shows In 2011
The band’s manager says the production will rival Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’.
Metallica are plotting a live extravaganza in 2011 that will rival Pink Floyd’s famous shows to support their seminal album ‘The Wall’. Metallica's manager, Peter Mensch, was talking to magazine Classic Rock about Metallica’s future plans.
"Let's just say that next year you will see a Metallica tour that will blow your mind. They will only play in 10 cities but it will be a huge undertaking. It will be Metallica's equivalent of 'The Wall'."
(Imagine that! To rival Pink Floyd's The Wall...that will definitely have to be a massive show with lots of theatrics, lights, sound & man power to top Floyd! I bet the ticket price will reflect the extravaganza nature of it all too. Non the less I say bring it on home!)

Pink Floyd Wins Battle Over Downloads
Pink Floyd Wins Battle Over Downloads
March 11, 2010
As reported yesterday, Pink Floyd sued record label EMI over online royalty payments and asked that the label stop selling single track downloads of their songs. Now it looks like the band already is victorious, as a London judge ruled that the label must sell Pink Floyd records only as full albums in sequential track order. Though Pink Floyd's last contract with EMI was written 10 years ago, before the digital music sales explosion, Judge Andrew Morritt accepted arguments by the group that EMI was contractually bound not to sell Pink Floyd music, other than as complete albums, without written consent. The judge said the purpose of the clause in the contract was to "preserve the artistic integrity of the albums."
The outcome of the other part of the legal issue, concerning the level of royalties paid to the band, was unclear, as that segment of the judgement was held in secret, according to Reuters. EMI successfully applied to the court for the royalties aspect of the case to be kept secret for reasons of "commercial confidentiality." The judge also ordered EMI to pay roughly $60,000 for the band’s legal fees while the court determines how much the label should pay in fines and damages, and he refused the company permission to appeal.

(That didn't take long to settle, I had a feeling this is how it was gonna go down eventually.)

Depp reads Morrison poetry for new film
Depp reads Morrison poetry for new film
The Doors fan Johnny Depp has landed a treat as the narrator of Tom Dicillo's new documentary on the band - he has been granted access to late frontman Jim Morrison's poetry, which he'll read in the film. Skip related content
Depp recounts the history of the band in When You’re Strange, featuring footage culled from hundreds of hours of rare footage, and Morrison's poetry has now been added to the soundtrack - read by the actor.
The Doors drummer John Densmore is urging fans to see the film after watching it at the Berlin Film Festival in Germany.
He says, "I think Tom's film shows a little bit more about all four of us. And it shows Jim in the beginning, his innocence and shyness and everything, and I love seeing that - that's the Jim I knew."

Pink Floyd Sues EMI
Pink Floyd Sues EMI
by Paul Cashmere - March 11 2010
Pink Floyd is taking legal action against their record label EMI because people can now download their individual tracks instead of an entire album.
According to the Pink Floyd and EMI contract, EMI cannot “unbundle” the songs meaning that songs not released as singles can only be purchased on a complete album.
EMI argues that because of the time when the contract was signed (pre the digital age) the clause did not apply to downloads such as through iTunes. Pink Floyd signed the contract in 1999 and the contract prohibits the songs from being taken out of context.
EMI claims that it only applies to physical releases. Pink Floyd’s lawyer Robert Howe argues that the EMI stance makes no sense.
Last year the band sued the label for miscalculating their royalties.

(But if you want to listen to just the one song...I do understand Floyd's reaction and most of their albums you'd want the whole thing because it's an experience not a single as they say, case in point The Dark Side of The Moon & The Wall. Some songs are meant to be heard as an album and not just a song like it's on the radio.)
