COB Are You Dead Yet? Review

Children Of Bodom – Are You Dead Yet? Review
Posted By Michael Melchor on 10.27.05

If you are, this should revive you pretty quickly.

To many Americans, the band’s name probably sounds like a sophomoric attempt at humor with an odd foreign spelling. But, to explain the name and give you an idea of what you’re in for, the truth couldn’t be further from the pun.

From The Encyclopedia:

The Lake Bodom murders is the popular name of a series of murders which happened in Finland in the year of 1961. Lake Bodom is a small Finnish lake, about 22 kilometres north of the Finnish capital, Helsinki.

On the night of June 4, 1961, four teenagers were camping on the shores of the Lake Bodom when - allegedly - an insane person murdered three of them in cold blood with a knife and wounded the fourth teenager. The lone survivor has lived a relatively normal life afterwards.

Some years later - between June 3 and 6 of 1972 (approximately the 11 year annversary) - a man announced that he was the Lake Bodom murderer. Police investigation proved that he couldn't be the murderer.

In early 2005, the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation has declared the case as solved. According to an official statement, Nils Gustafsson, the survivor, had an outburst of jealousy involving old feelings for one of the other teenagers, Irmeli Bjцrklund, who had been his girlfriend in the past. Irmeli was slowly and brutally killed, while the other teenagers were summarily executed. The outcome of case, as of yet, is unknown, since it has already gone "cold".

A perfect incident to name a Finnish heavy metal band after – and one that most of mainstream Finland has had a hard time with since. Many of their fans, though, have overlooked the controversy in lieu of CoB’s pummeling, melodic style.

The 411
Are You Dead Yet? is a rather capable metal album that may serve to expand Children Of Bodom’s audience to international levels once and for all. While the vocals contain very little melody, the rest of the sound, surprisingly, does – making for an excellent listen. This is an especially great record for Halloween, if for no other reason than the meaning behind the band’s name.

Very creepy indeed, but cool :)

'80s rock tees make a statement

Monterey County Herald | 10/24/2005 | '80s rock tees make a statement

''The amount of teens wearing the Led Zeppelin '77 tour T-shirts walking around the Rock Hall is absurd. Absurd,'' Kramer says. ''I saw them on that tour and didn't even buy a shirt.''

At least these kids are in the know. Led Zeppelin equals cool!

Here's the shirt that everyone has to have in their closet and yes you can get one at our store :)

ROBERT PLANT Dismisses ZEPPELIN Reunion Talk: 'I Prefer My Career To Have Bit Of Dignity Now'

BLABBERMOUTH.NET - ROBERT PLANT Dismisses ZEPPELIN Reunion Talk: 'I Prefer My Career To Have Bit Of Dignity Now'

Plant, 57, who plays Edinburgh Corn Exchange next Thursday and Barrowland in Glasgow on October 29, said: "I've not been offered vast sums to reform LED ZEPPELIN. I would never do it anyway.

"We were a boy band and I'm not a boy any more. I prefer my career to have a bit of dignity now."

So be it...though most fans would gladly plunk down the cash to see the great bands of yesteryear. Zep, Floyd, Stones, Sabbath etc.

Deborah Harry & Blondie Monaco Interview & Clip

Musical breaks, world music festivals Music for 2

You were at Woodstock, and then at the centre of a very exciting period in New York, when bands like Blondie, the Ramones and Talking Heads broke through; what was it like from the inside looking out?

“Actually it wasn’t received very well at first. It wasn’t something that was embraced wholeheartedly in the business world, or on radio. And for quite a while, we really had an uphill battle. I think it was a very treasured kind of local thing, and at that point, in the very early days, it certainly wasn’t important to other people.
It was just the Lower East Side, and some of the West Village that was aware of what was going on. It was priceless in a way, because people got to experiment and do things without being judged. We were all just paying court visits to one another. Chris says it was like vaudeville, I think it was more like some sort of art exchange, a music exchange.”

This so true in the beginning of the Punk movement they were mostly ignored by the media, unlike today's Punks that are embraced and so mainstream, In the day it was very underground. I was lucky to have known about these artist in those days due to my boyfriend listening to an underground radio show, the late risers club in Boston. I was lucky to have seen Blondie, The Ramones, Patty Smith, 999, The Dickies, Elvis Costello and more that I can't remember right now. So lucky to have been at CBGB's in it's heyday. I'm glad that Blondie is still around and touring and sounding fabulous.

Visit our site for Blondie and Ramones merchandise!

Green Day's Billie Joe To Launch Clothing Line

Billie Joe To Launch Adeline Clothing At Hot Topic - October 17th

With his own fashion-forward style and a song from 2000 titled "Fashion Victim," it's clear Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong knows something about fashion. Now he's bringing some of his punk-inspired style to the masses in his men's and women's line, Adeline, named after his record label. Armstrong and wife Adrienne have developed a variety of tees and accessories geared towards the alternative/punk scene. The men's collection will feature long-sleeved and short-sleeved button-ups, tees, fitted jackets, and tapered pants. The women's collection consists of woven tees, hoodies, dresses and button-up tops. On the accessories side are beanies, cadet hats and ties. A unique feature of the line is that different Adeline logos were created for men and women, setting the brand apart from other labels. Ensuring their designs fully come to life, Armstrong and his wife have teamed up with Rock Steady Clothing Company, who'll guide the couple on development and production of the line. To catch a sneak peek of the brand in action, watch for TV appearances and magazine shoots of Billie Joe, or see him live on the current Green Day tour for American Idiot; he's sure to be adorned in his self-designed clothes. Adeline by Rock Steady will make its debut at the MAGIC Show in Las Vegas in early 2006.

This should be a very interesting line to see :) seems that lots of entertainers get into the business of clothing. U2's Bono with his clothing line, Jaylo, they all get that fashion fever. I would like to see fantasy clothing lines from Marilyn Manson, Sully of Godsmack, Trent Nine Inch Nails and Amy from Evanescense.

Love the blues? It all began in joints like these | 10/16/2005 | Love the blues? It all began in joints like these

CLARKSDALE, Miss. - In a handful of songs recorded in the 1930s, and bundled in legends and rumors ever since, Robert Johnson became the American Faust -- meeting the devil at a rural crossroads and trading his soul so he could become ``King of the Delta Blues.''

Whether Clarksdale has the real crossroads -- there are other spots claimed in this part of Mississippi -- is beside the point. Blues heritage is kudzu-thick here.

The official crossroads, at U.S. 61 and U.S. 49, is now graced by an oversized blue electric guitar mounted on a 25-foot pole. By itself, it is a Mid-South photo-op. An iPod-tunity, too: Try Cream's classic version of Crossroads. Or Walking into Clarksdale by Zeppelin's Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. The title of the Romantics' 2003 LP was even more site-specific: 6¼9.

MUSICAL CROSSROADS: Legend has it that the intersection of U.S. 61 and U.S. 49 is where bluesman Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil in order to become King of the Delta Blues.

(Thank goodness for the roots of the Blues...sure makes for a haunting trip during the Halloween season you just might meet the devil there too.)

Room Full Of Mirrors - Hendrix

Room Full Of Mirrors -

Here's a look at a cool book, biography of Jimi Hendrix.

He disliked marmalade and cold sheets. His likes included music, mountains, hair, and strawberry shortcake. He immortalized his penis in plaster, set fire to his guitar, and choked to death on his own vomit at the age of 27. Charles R. Cross's biography of seismic rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix is packed both with small details and riveting testimony from leading rock figures and scene-makers of the sixties. Marianne Faithfull, Hendrix's friend Eric Burdon, Jimi Hendrix Experience bassist Noel Redding, and Who guitarist Pete Townshend, among others, recast an oft-told story with an impressive array of eyewitness recollections. Cross recounts Hendrix's early years in Seattle, his musical apprenticeship on the American black entertainers' Chitlin Circuit, and the salutary effect of his London debut on leading British guitarists like Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, whose technical superiority had until then gone unchallenged. Hendrix emerges as a supremely talented, driven individual, whose life and career were derailed by a combination of managerial insensitivity and greed, and by his own attempts to self-medicate his way out of a punishing work schedule. A meticulously assembled combination of hard facts, atmospheric scene-setting, and empathetic writing, ROOM FULL OF MIRRORS is one of the most authoritative and readable of the many available Hendrix biographies.

Les Paul Cuts His 1st Rock Album

Entertainment - network

Take it from Peter Frampton. Or from Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend or Jimmy Page -- they all owe a debt to Les Paul, father of the electric guitar.

"They all mention Les as an inspiration because of (his) early records, which were jaw-dropping when you first heard them as a novice guitarist," says Frampton, who recalls learning licks off of Paul's records as a nine-year-old in England. "We revere him, but Les is so genuine and down-to-earth that he's still one of the lads."

At age 90, the man who developed the solid-body electric guitar, and who has long been a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has finally released his first rock album, Les Paul & Friends: American Made, World Played. The list of friends includes Frampton, Beck, Clapton, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora and other guitar legends.

Imagine that at 90 he cuts an album, Les Paul is the man!!

The Rolling Stones-Sticky Fingers
Led Zeppelin-Led Zeppelin 4
Eagles-Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975
Grateful Dead-Anthem of the Sun
Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship-While Bathing at Baxter's

AC/DC-Back in Black
Cream-Wheels of Fire

The Byrds-The Byrd's Greatest Hits
Aerosmith-Toys In The Attic
Blood Sweat & Tears-Blood Sweat & Tears
Van Halen-1984

those are the top 20 to see the complete list go to the link above. I don't agree with all the essential album picks, but that differs from person to person. Also the order of the bands listed I don't agree for myself even though yeah I know the Beatles always are everyones #1 spot and they did influence music and the way it has progressed. Personally I'd put The Doors higher on the list. Glad that Pink Floyd is in the number 2 spot :) Zep should have been higher on the list.

Clapton Offered $5 Million!

Eric Clapton will reportedly collect $5 million for the rights to publish his autobiography. The New York Post says that Clapton sold his autobiography to Doubleday in the United States and the Century imprint in Britain in a world rights deal. Both imprints are owned by Random House, which is part of Bertelsmann. "We know Eric Clapton is intensely committed to this book," said a Doubleday spokesman, according to the Post. "He will address all the peaks and valleys of his life." The book will come out in spring of 2007, coinciding with a North American tour by Clapton and the release of a retrospective box set of his music.

Wow!! $5 million bucks?? should be an interesting read. The book I'd like to read is a Jimmy Page autobiography, there was a rumour he was working on one, but you know how it is with Page, he's always rumoured to be working on something or other and then it takes forever to see the light of day! A Robert Plant book would be very interesting to read as well :)

Motley Crue's Tommy Lee Injured

Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee was injured Wednesday night when a pyrotechnic stunt went awry during the band's concert in Casper, Wyoming. Lee was suspended from a wire between two drum sets when fireworks went off and sparks reportedly shot towards the drummer, but he performed one more song before being taken to the hospital. Frontman Vince Neil announced to the crowd that the band would not perform an encore due to Lee's injury, which is said not to be too serious. It's currently unclear whether the mishap will affect Mötley Crüe's next few shows, scheduled for Friday night in Bismarck, ND and Saturday in Rapid City, SD.

Ouch!! What a guy, hurt and all he keeps banging the drum :) Seems the Crue is getting hurt lately. Hopefully this will be their last mishap.

Learning The Rock Star Scream

Top Stories - The Olympian - Olympia, Washington

Do rock stars really need to learn how to scream? It's doubtful Robert Plant needed coaching to shriek "baaaaay-beeeeey," or that Zack de la Rocha ever needed a lesson. But regardless of natural talent, Melissa Cross, the self-proclaimed "Queen of Scream," has developed a training program that teaches proper technique to a new breed of unrestrained rock singers.

Q: What about the classic rockers like Robert Plant?

A: Robert Plant. That's a little bit different because there was never fire in Led Zeppelin. It always had a note to it. He never screamed. With Robert Plant it was like, we still have to do music, we have to do notes. So, Robert Plant: Amazing vocalist, but he never did fire. He did heat and he did it really well. As well as Ozzy Osbourne and AC/DC and Bonn Scott. This kinda heat thing has gone on for 20, 30 years.

Yeap, Plant does have the HOT heat thing going on.

Roger Waters May Play With Floyd

Roger Waters Online

Roger Waters has told Italian journalists he may well play again with Pink Floyd. Also Roger mentioned the fact that his Father's death in Italy has meant he feels close to the country.

"Playing again together at Live 8, doing the old songs, was very moving. For over 20 years David and I maintained extreme positions but now I realise that my behavior was very childish. As in all things one has to find common ground, meet halfway. That's why I can say today that you never know, it could happen."

Okay fine, sure hope he isn't just dangling a carrot before us Floyd fans, cause you know we really, really would like a Pink Floyd tour, so Rog, don't just say it, DO IT :)

Plant Has Brain Lapse

Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas | | Arts & Entertainment

Robert Plant had a brain lapse Thursday night at Nokia Theatre and mistakenly called his new CD Manic Nirvana – the title of an album he put out 15 years ago. More proof of an aging rock god living in the past? Hardly.

Mr. Plant built the show around songs from his strong new solo CD, Mighty Rearranger. The blazing riff-rock of "Freedom Fries" recalled mid-period Zeppelin.

And instead of trying to represent his entire career, he simply zeroed in on Zeppelin from 1969-'71 and songs from Mighty Rearranger. While that meant no "Kashmir" or "Big Log" or "Tall Cool One," it did leave time for stirring versions of Bob Dylan's "Girl From the North Country," Love's "Seven and Seven Is" and "Hey Joe."

At 57, Mr. Plant moves with the same flair he always has – twirling his mike stand, doing back bends and dancing like Elvis. "The hips are very important," he announced, mid-swivel.

Almost important are his trademark mane of blond ringlets, which he still tosses to and fro. Up close, he's as weathered as Mick Jagger – but from row HH, he's still the golden god of rock.

Don't panic Manic, it will be alright, so you forgot your new albums name...Mighty Rearranger in Plant's mind became Manic Nivana, he was thinking of Mmmms, wonder if he said oops afterwards :)
Plant will always be the "Golden God" no matter how old he gets! No one has ever come close to his persona IMHO.

Influenced by American-oriented rock such Toto and Journey, Bonham formed his own band, Air Race when he was 17. He was equally taken with combination British/American rock group Foreigner.

"I was huge into that scene," he said. "It was what we called adult-oriented or American-oriented rock at the time."

Now the fan is a member of the band. Bonham joins Foreigner Oct. 7 at the Community Theatre in Morristown. He credits his friendship with Mick Jones and Foreigner's manager for recruiting him back on the road. "He always looked after my career," he said.

"I just tour for the heck of it," he said. "I don't really have to tour. I'm playing for my love of music. I am blessed and unblessed. I'm blessed by being financially OK and unblessed by losing a father. There were many tragic times but I've come out the other side. It's good to be here."

As for his relationship with Page, contact is infrequent, but Bonham always keeps him in mind as mentor and a link to his Dad.

"It's great to sit and talk to Jimmy ... and ask him certain questions," he said. "This is exactly what my Dad did...."

A recent transplant to the United States, Bonham resides in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with his wife, son and daughter. He and his family moved here in March but keep their house in England.

His son may have inherited the Bonham music gene, but American culture has put it on hold.

"As soon as we moved to America he went off into football and soccer," he said. "My daughter is into cheerleading and unfortunately Coach (a fancy brand of pocketbook)."

I think that Jimmy Page also has a house down in Florida somewhere near that area, maybe it was he who helped Jason get his here in the states. I'm sure Jason will love it here, his kids sure will.

Pearl Jam, Plant Get The Led Out In Chicago

Pearl Jam, Plant Get The Led Out In Chicago

A thousand dollars is a lot for a concert ticket, but Pearl Jam and special guest Robert Plant justified the price last night (Oct. 5) during an intimate benefit for Hurricane Katrina victims at Chicago's House of Blues.

Plant doesn't typically play venues this cozy, nor does he usually serve as an opening act, but he modestly submitted to both changes of pace for a strong 45-minute set composed mostly of songs from his new "Mighty Rearranger" album, plus Led Zeppelin classics such as "Black Dog" and "Four Sticks."

With only a passing mention of the event's purpose, Pearl Jam stuck mainly to a career ranging set ("Even Flow," "Better Man," "Corduroy," "Black," "Alive"), each song of which had the audience singing along in unison.

As the last date on its current tour, the band looked a little beat. But the fun was ratcheted up during the second encore, as "Given to Fly" segued into its melodic inspiration, Led Zeppelin's "Going to California," which Plant and two members of his band the Strange Sensation performed beautifully.

Plant then stayed on stage for a run through his past, with Pearl Jam as both accomplice and awed spectator. He and Vedder traded verses on Elvis Presley's "Little Sister" and the apt "Money (That's What I Want)" before offering a unique duet: Zeppelin's "Fool in the Rain," with Vedder and Plant sharing a lyric sheet since, shockingly, the latter had never it played in concert.

Following a gorgeous take on "Thank You," with Plant's voice in fine form, he and Pearl Jam returned for Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World," featuring a rare instance of Plant foregoing his frontman status by strapping on a guitar and playing along at Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready's side.

What a concert that must have been, Plant playing guitar!! I love both Pearl Jam and Robert Plant/Zeppelin..Chicago was sure lucky to get these artist together I'm sure everyone walked out estatic. Sure would love to hear "Fool in the Rain", wonder if this concert will be re-leased and the proceeds can also go to the hurricane victims.

the Pulse - Entertainment Beat: The Machine

the Pulse - Entertainment Beat: The Machine

The public’s love for and appreciation of Pink Floyd’s music hasn’t dulled with time. Every year a new generation finds something in their catalog to identify with, but given the rocky and much publicized history of the band, it becomes less and less likely that the
original members of Pink Floyd will ever tour under that banner again. This is why we need The Machine.

Seeing The Machine isn’t like seeing Pink Floyd, it’s like seeing The Machine. They have an unparalleled audience connection and every member of the band displays incredible musicianship. Every Floyd fan will get a rush when the crowd erupts from the single keyboard note that signals the start of “Echoes,” or when Ryan’s signature bass solo frenzy launches the band into “One of These Days.”

The Machine plays The Palladium on September 24, so catch Pink Floyd the way it was meant to be experienced ~ sight, sound, and shaking floor!

Rock groupie's bra honors the King, for a good cause

The Seattle Times: Living: Rock groupie's bra honors the King, for a good cause

Legendary rock 'n' roll groupie Pamela Des Barres has arrived in town to hang out with former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant; to sign copies of her just reissued bed-and-tell-all book (now with a foreword by Dave Navarro); and to help raise awareness for breast cancer. The groupie, you see, has survived the disease.

The petite, flame-haired Des Barres was a member of Frank Zappa's all-girl rock group, The GTOs. But she is best known for her carnal adventures with rock 'n' roll luminaries Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page and actor-musician Michael Des Barres, whom she married and later divorced. It's all intimately chronicled in her memoir "I'm With the Band: Confessions of a Groupie."

Des Barres is also regarded as an inspiration behind a trio of film groupies: Kate Hudson's character in the film "Almost Famous" and the Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn personas in "The Banger Sisters."

You go girl, great idea Pamela.
