Stones Bigger Bang to Hit Shelves

Rolling Stones' 'Bang' tour to hit Best Buy shelves on DVD

by Tjames Madison

Just a few months after finishing up the US leg of what their publicist claims is the best-selling tour of all time, The Rolling Stones return with a concert DVD documenting the band's "A Bigger Bang" tour.

The Stones will partner with electronics and entertainment retailer Best Buy for the four-DVD set, titled "The Biggest Bang." The seven-hour collection, which features two complete concerts along with two documentaries, will be available at all Best Buy stores starting June 12.

The package, which will retail in the US for $29.99, can be pre-ordered through Best Buy's website starting today (5/30). The set will also be available in Canada at Best Buy outlets as well as Future Shop stores, and an international release is planned later this summer.

"'The Biggest Bang' DVD set lets fans join us as we traveled around the world," the band said in a press release. "They will go behind the scenes at the Super Bowl, see us play an intimate club show in Toronto and for 2 million people on the beach in Rio, as well as gigs in Shanghai, Buenos Aires and Japan. It features classics but also rarities--songs we've never released before on DVD."

"The Biggest Bang" marks the second time that the legendary rockers have worked with retailing giant Best Buy on a concert DVD. In 2003, the band and the company teamed up on "Four Flicks," an exclusive, four-DVD concert set that became the highest-selling long form concert DVD in US history, according to the retailer.

"'Four Flicks' was great, but practice makes perfect and 'The Biggest Bang' is even better--it's got all the right stuff," said "A Bigger Bang" tour promoter Michael Cohl in a press statement. "It's great to be back with Best Buy, and we're pleased that they have decided to offer fans the same low price as they did with Four Flicks three years ago."

Approaching two years since the band launched its record-breaking outing, the Stones continue to tour behind their latest studio album, 2005's "A Bigger Bang." The group is currently gearing up for a fresh European leg, which kicks off June 5 in Werchter, Belgium.

The Doors Exhibit To Open At Rock Hall

Doors exhibit to open at Rock Hall of Fame

Los Angeles rock icons the Doors said they are looking forward to celebrating their 40th anniversary with a new exhibit this week.

Break on Through: The Lasting Legacy of the Doors opens Friday at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, after a reception with surviving band members the night before. The exhibit will include handwritten lyric manuscripts, instruments and amplifiers and some of the late singer Jim Morrison's poetry books.

It's very cool to have it happening, said keyboardist Ray Manzarek. We don't pooh-pooh the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Jim wouldn't do that, either. Here we are 40 years later, and people are still playing 'Light My Fire;' as they said in the '60s, groovy!

Morrison died in 1971 in Paris from a drug overdose. The group broke up in 1973 but Manzarek and guitarist Robbie Krieger have been playing Doors songs with a new group they've assembled, which is known as Riders on the Storm.

The surviving Doors are planning to release an authorized documentary in 2008.

Zep Rollercoaster

Rock legends LED ZEPPELIN have been honoured with their own themepark ride. The new Led Zeppelin rollercoaster is currently under construction at the upcoming Hard Rock themepark in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The ride, a 150-foot-tall (45 metres) steel rollercoaster with a Zeppelin theme, will open next year (08).

Led Zeppelin's stairway to theme-park heaven

First Aerosmith gets its own theme-park ride. Now Led Zeppelin. The creators of the Hard Rock theme park, under construction in Myrtle Beach, S.C., will announce details today of the park's signature ride: a 150-foot-tall steel roller coaster with a Led Zeppelin theme. The looping attraction is one of more than 40 rock 'n' roll-themed amusements planned for the 140-acre theme park. It's scheduled to open in spring 2008.
The park, built by private investors under license from Hard Rock International, which operates 123 Hard Rock Cafes and eight Hard Rock Hotels, is the first major new park planned for the USA in nearly a decade. As on the Aerosmith coaster, which made its debut in 1999 at the Disney-MGM Studios park near Orlando, riders on Zeppelin will experience a musical immersion from speakers.

"Led Zeppelin are the icons of hard-rock music," says the park's CEO, Steven Goodwin. "Parents and kids alike can relate to the band's music."
