Michael Jackson Cirque Du Soleil

Michael Jackson Cirque Du Soleil Coming

Following on from The Beatles `Love`, Cirque Du Soleil has announced the next production in Las Vegas will feature the music of Michael Jackson.

The Michael Jackson Cirque Du Soleil show will have a residency in a brand new yet-to-be opened, yet-to-be named nightclub in Las Vegas.

( I knew it would be a matter of time before they did something with Michael Jackson's music - I bet it will be a very good show too and one that will be quite popular. Michael's family seems to love the idea and it will pay tribute in a nice way to Michael.)

Manzarek-Krieger summer tour!

Manzarek/Krieger Tour

Manzarek-Krieger summer tour! What I want to know is what kind of band line up are they thinking of getting. Since Densmore is not touring with them I'm assuming that he still is not keen with the other two Doors men. Would be nice if he would join them.

Why is it that bands get so wrapped up in bad vibes and they can't put their differences aside for the sake of the music. Pink Floyd is another band that can't seem to get together, always either David Gilmour or Roger Waters not being able to get along.

Here are the tour dates thus far for Manzarek/Krieger:

Downtown Calling - A Film Narrated by Deborah Harry

Downtown Calling

In the late 1970s, the “greatest city in the world” was teetering on the edge of total chaos. A failed economy, crime and en mass housing corruption gave way to a city in crisis. Yet out of the economic and social strife that held the “Big Apple” hostage, a family of homegrown cultures that would forever change the world began to emerge. Downtown Calling, narrated by Debi Harry and featuring essentially the entire crew that laid the foundation for everything cool today, not only documents, in detail, the evolution of New York City’s fertile music and art subculture during this period, but how its collective output continues to play a prominent, driving role in the international fashion, art and music industries today.

Roger Waters to celebrate ’Wall’ anniversary with tour

Roger Waters to celebrate ’Wall’ anniversary with tour

By Associated Press | Monday, April 12, 2010 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Music News

NEW YORK — It’s been 30 years, but Pink Floyd’s "The Wall" still means a great deal in the rock world — and to its co-creator Roger Waters.

So to commemorate the groundbreaking album’s anniversary, Waters plans a tour this fall of the music from the concept album, with new staging that will bring the story — loosely inspired by his life — to a new generation.

"In the 30-odd years since I first performed this piece, it’s taken on some new meanings for me," Waters, co-founder, bassist and main lyricist for Pink Floyd, said in an interview last week.

"Thirty years ago when I was kind of an angry and not very young lad, I found myself driven into defensive positions because I was scared of stuff, and I’ve come to realize that in that personal story, maybe somewhere hidden in there exists an allegory for more general and universal themes, political and social themes," he said. "It’s really for that reason that I decided that I’d try and create a new performance of this piece using a lot of the same things that we did all those years ago."

But Waters said he won’t just be dusting off the show that the now-defunct Pink Floyd performed decades ago. In fact, Waters said part of the excitement surrounding his new staging of "The Wall" involves new technology that allows him to do things he could only dream about in the 1980s and ’90s.

"Projection systems now are completely different from what they were then, which means that I would be able to project over the entire 250-foot expanse of the wall ... which we couldn’t do in those days," he said.

Though the tour promises plenty of grand theatrics, more important to Waters is the legendary album’s political and social commentary, which he believes is still relative.

"When we did it then, we were after the end of the Vietnam War, and we’re right now in the middle of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, so there’s a very powerful anti-war message in ’The Wall.’ There was then and there still is now," he said.

Waters plans a segment in the show that will pay tribute to soldiers who lost their lives, not only in the recent wars, but also in other conflicts.

The U.S. tour will kick off Sept. 15 in Toronto and end Dec. 15 in Anaheim, Calif. It will also head to Europe.

For Waters, the concerts will likely mark the end of his performing days.

"I’m not as young as I used to be. I’m not like B.B. King, or Muddy Waters," the 66-year-old said. "My friend Eric Clapton ... he’ll be playing guitar and he’ll be on stage ’til the day he dies, because that’s what he does."

"I’m not a great vocalist or a great instrumentalist or whatever, but I still have the fire in my belly, and I have something to say," he continued. "I have a swan song in me and I think this will probably be it."

(WOW...this will be grand! I saw Roger Waters last time he was around Boston and the show was amazing. Looks like he will beat Metallica to their big grand tour ala The Wall style. I can only imagine what Roger has up his sleeves for this tour. The man is a genius when it comes to creativity. I'm sure David Gilmour or Nick Mason won't be on tour for this, but you never know, it could be the last swan song for all!)

Doors reopened in 'When You're Strange'

Doors reopened in 'When You're Strange'

A new documentary about the band gets it right, surviving members say. It includes previously unseen footage of frontman Jim Morrison.

An eerie specter haunts the opening scenes of the new Doors documentary, "When You're Strange: A Film About the Doors." Underneath a foreboding desert sun, a bearded and bedraggled hitchhiker wanders through the desolate Joshua tree expanse. He gets behind the wheel of a Mustang Cobra and switches on the radio to hear an announcer broadcasting the news of Jim Morrison's death. The scene creates a cognitive dissonance. Is this man a Jim Morrison doppelgänger, or have the filmmakers unearthed unseen archival footage of the deceased Doors lead singer?

Densmore Locked Out Of Morrison's World

Densmore Locked Out Of Morrison's World

Former THE DOORS star JOHN DENSMORE desperately wanted to save his tragic bandmate JIM MORRISON before he went too far - but was locked out from his inner circle of friends and enablers.

Morrison died in a Paris, France hotel room in 1971 after years of drug and alcohol abuse, and Densmore admits it pained him to watch his friend spiral into a self-destructive hell.

The drummer tried his best to warn Morrison of the fate that awaited him if he didn't change his ways, but, by the time Morrison moved to France, he could no longer reach him.

Promoting new Tom DiCillo Doors documentary When You're Strange, Densmore says, "No one could get to him. It was like Elvis. In fact, Jerry Scheff - the bass player for Elvis, who did L.A. Woman with The Doors - said he was friends with Raquel Welch and she wanted to do a movie with Elvis and he told Elvis it would be a great idea, but she never got through his people to talk to him about it.

"That was what it was like with Jim; Jim was Dionysus (Greek god of wine, who inspires ritual madness and ecstasy) personified and that was his road.

"In the film, you see me throw my sticks down at one point in the movie. Back then, I thought, 'OK, maybe we'll have one less album but the guy's gonna live.' I couldn't articulate it. We didn't have substance abuse clinics."

But Densmore and Morrison's former bandmate Robby Krieger has revealed he once staged an intervention in an effort to prevent his pal from killing himself with drugs and drink - and it worked for a week.

The guitarist called on his father, a psychologist, to help him win over the out-of-control rock star.

He tells WENN, "I brought him over to my dad's house. My dad took Freudian psychology and stuff and it kind of worked. Jim agreed that he was a drunk and he should stop, but, about a week later, he was back to it. It's the toughest thing in the world."

But Krieger admits he and his bandmates could have "tried harder" to stop Morrison from spiralling into self-destruction: "If you knew Jim Morrison, you'd know there was no way of stopping him from doing anything. That was his type of personality and you know how hard it is to stop your own kid from doing something bad. Jim was like your kid on steroids."

(That kind of attitude is what made/makes Morrison larger than life, he lived his life full speed to the limit and if you go to fast you know what happens in the end, he knew this and took it head on. The ultimite thrill, the rush... Jim wanted to feel alive and look right into the abyss, he was not afraid.)

Walkers retrace Syd Barrett's steps for charity

Walkers retrace Syd Barrett's steps for charity

John Downing

FANS of Syd Barrett walked 60 miles to follow in his footsteps on a trek from London to Cambridge.

The original Pink Floyd frontman walked home to Cambridge 30 years ago after deciding to leave London.

Fans set out on Friday on a three-day walk in support of the Syd Barrett Fund, the charity set up by his sister Rosemary Breen.

They started at Camden Roundhouse, the venue which hosted the UFO Club, where Pink Floyd played in the 1960s.

Walkers entered Cambridge along the River Cam yesterday.

The fund supports the work of Escape Artists, based in Cambridge and London, which provides opportunities for disadvantaged groups to access the arts as a way of improving mental wellbeing, skills and employability.

Simon Webb, walk organiser, said: "It’s been pretty gruelling at times but Syd wouldn’t have had a support vehicle and my guess is that he slept in hedges, while we’ve been in youth hostels."

Syd was in Pink Floyd from their formation in 1965 until 1968. He died in Cambridge in July 2006, aged 60.

To support the walkers, visit www.justgiving.com/sydbarrettwalk. For more on Escape Artists, visit www.escapeartists.co.uk

(That was a very long walk to do! Does anyone know why Syd walked all that way?)

See Jim Morrison alive again

See Jim Morrison alive again

There is something odd about When You're Strange, a new documentary about The Doors. And it hits you in the first frames.
The scene is an abandoned car on the side of a California highway. A man slithers slowly out of an open window. He has a beard. He seems dazed. He is Jim Morrison.

Or ... is it an actor playing the volatile lead singer and poet who died in 1971 at age 27? After all, when did Morrison star in a movie?

"I just can't get away from the is-it-Jim, is-it-not-Jim? thing," says director Tom DiCillo, whose feature-length film opens in select theaters nationwide Friday and airs on PBS May 12.

The answer: It is indeed Morrison, who in 1969 put together a short 35mm art film called HWY that stars the singer as a drifter storming across the desert in a growlingShelby GT500 sports car.

This rare footage is part of spools of previously unseen clips that give When You're Strange its heft. What's more, while most music documentaries cut away to interviews with surviving band members, DiCillo opted to add only a lean voice-over by Johnny Depp.

"In this movie, The Doors will never get old," he says.

For keyboardist and founding member Ray Manzarek, watching Strange— which was produced with the band's blessing — was a welcome ride back in time.

"What really turns me on is seeing Jim alive again, our buddy who disappeared off the planet," says Manzarek, who still performs Doors music with guitarist Robby Krieger. (Drummer John Densmore records jazz albums, lectures and works on film projects.)

Besides the HWY footage, memorable scenes include Morrison comforting a bloody female fan who was hit by a chair, and the band rehearsing in Krieger's beachside pad. But it's the music that echoes through time.

Doors fans get more than just Strange to satisfy their cravings: This week, Rhino releases a soundtrack, and two albums, Absolutely Live and Live in New York, on vinyl.

Blondie Band of The Month

Blondie Band of The Month

Our band of the month for April is Blondie. Get 10% off all orders $25 or more that includes any Blondie/Debbie Harry goodies. For more details visit our website. Mystic Rock Boutique

Blondie is an American rock band founded by singer Deborah Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. The band was a pioneer in the early American new wave and punk rock scenes of the mid-1970s. Their first two albums contained strong elements of these genres, and although successful in the United Kingdom and Australia, Blondie was regarded as an underground band in the United States until the release of Parallel Lines in 1978. Over the next three years, the band achieved several hit singles and is noted for its eclectic mix of musical styles incorporating elements of disco, pop, rap, and reggae, while retaining a basic style as a new wave band.

The band broke up after the release of their sixth studio album The Hunter in 1982. Debbie Harry continued to pursue a solo career with varied results after taking a few years off to care for partner Chris Stein, who was diagnosed with pemphigus, a rare autoimmune disease of the skin.

The group reformed in 1997, achieving renewed success and a number one single in the United Kingdom with "Maria" in 1999. The group toured and performed throughout the world during the following years, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Blondie has sold 40 million records worldwide and is still active today, with a new album planned for release in the spring of 2010.

In The Flesh

Darling, darling, darling, I can't wait to see you
Your picture ain't enough
I can't wait to touch you, in the flesh
Darling, darling, darling, I can't wait to hear you
Remembering your love, is nothing without you in the flesh
Went walking one day on the lower east side
Met you with a girlfriend
You were so divine
She said; "Hands off this one sweetie, this boy is mine"
I couldn't resist you
I'm not deaf dumb and blind
Darling, darling, darling, now you're out of town
Those girls that you run with, they bring my head down
Darling, darling, darling, watch out if I see you
'Cause if you say hello
It'll mean you wanna see me in the flesh
Ooh warm and soft in the flesh
Ooh close and hot in the flesh

X-Offender

I saw you standing on the corner
You looked so big and fine
I really wanted to go out with you
So when you smiled
I laid my heart on the line
You read me my rights and then you said;
"Let's go" and nothing more
I thought of my nights and how they were
They were filled with
I know you wouldn't go
You'd watch my heart burst then, you'd step in
I had to know so I asked
You just had to laugh
We sat in the night with my hands cuffed at my side
I look at your life and your style
I wanted nothing more
I know you wouldn't go
You'd watch my heart burst then, you'd step in
I had to know so I asked
You just had to laugh
Walking the line you were a marksman
Told me that law like wine is ageless
Public defender
You had to admit you wanted, the love of a sex offender
I know you wouldn't go
You'd watch my heart burst then, you'd step in
I had to know so I asked, you just had to laugh
My vision in blue I call you from inside my cell
And in the trial you were there with, your badge and rubber boots
I think all the time how I'm going to perpetrate love with you
And when I get out there's no doubt
I'll be sex offensive to you
