CBGB Goes West

LATEST: New York punk mecca CBGB is moving to Las Vegas, Nevada. After months of speculation as to the future of the club, CBGB boss HILLY KRISTAL - who lost his lease last year (05) - has confirmed he's heading for Sin City. Kristal, who will close CBGB after 33 years on 30 September (06), says, "I intend to take everything out of there that represents CBGB. "We're going to take the bars, the toilets, the urinals, even the doors. We want to re-create the essence of the club." CBGB hosted the New York punk revolution in the mid to late 1970s, staging regular shows for the RAMONES, PATTI SMITH, BLONDIE and TALKING HEADS, among others.

They can re-create and take the club to Vegas, but it still wouldn't be the same CBGB that Blondie, The Ramones, Patti Smith and others performed at. What about the actual street where it's located that was part of the whole coolness of CBGB. I am however glad that they are going to try and at least still have it somewhere...long live CBGB and what it represented for us that actually lived the times and were lucky enough to venture into the club when the Punk bands of yesteryear were in full swing. I got my Patti Smith autograph there, how cool is that!
