The Sound of Originality

The Shorthorn Online | Opinion | The Sound of Originality

We live in a society of music ruled by the pop star and the pop band. It seems like the main goal for musicians today is to do as little work as possible in order to get paid. With bands like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan and rappers like Nelly and 50 Cent, we are stuck in an era of, well, effortless music.

My main complaint is that I think artists need to go back to the days when they made music because they loved it and not because they wanted to be rich. I think standing on a stage and having a crowd of thousands of people feeling what you’ve created is a priceless experience. Artists need to play music for themselves and the fans, not the record company executives looking to cash in on their success. It’s time to bring originality back to our music.

{Exactly how I feel....artist should be making music they love and sharing it with their audience and if it's good music it will sell!!! Look at all the gone by bands of my day...Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, these bands didn't do it the way their record companies wanted, they did it their way, showed their individuality and the fans of those bands are still fans today. How many fans do you think Britney Spears will have in say 15 years, will her fans now still be fans?}
