New Aerosmith Soft Stuff

New Aerosmith Soft Stuff

Aerosmith have been selling more albums now that Steven Tyler is a judge on American Idol, hmm maybe it WAS a good idea for him to do that show, even though I rather him be creative. So with new fans Aerosmith have decided to release an album of ballads to capitalize on new fans, more sales, you know the drill.

The softer sounds of Aerosmith for album ‘Tough Love: Best of the Ballads’ due out this May by Universal song titles are:

Angel
Amazing
Love In An Elevator
Cryin’
What It Takes
Rag Doll
Crazy
Dueces Are Wild
Livin’ On The Edge
Blind Man
Janie’s Got A Gun
Dream On

Slayer & Rob Zombie Total Destruction

Slayer And Rob Zombie Promise Hell On Earth

By Andrew Tijs

Metal heroes Slayer and Rob Zombie join forces for a sixteen-date tour across the US and Canada.

The tour, dubbed Hell On Earth, is purportedly the first time these metal legends have shared a stage since Ozzfest in 1999 – twelve years ago (we guess that sharing places on the Soundwave bill this year don’t quite count.

Slayer axeman Kerry King said in a statement: “You can expect no less than 'hell on earth’. Total sonic annihilation and a visual bludgeoning. Bring your own body bag...”

And Rob Zombie got a little Spinal Tap on the fans, saying, “Total destruction on stage and off is what this combination promises. Seriously, how much more Hell could you ask for? The answer is none more Hell.”

They’ll play 16 dates in late July and early August, from Pittsburgh to Seattle and hopping up Canada for shows in Toronto, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Victoria and Vancouver.

Before the tour kicks off, Slayer join Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth for the monstrous Big Four concert in California on April 23.

(Are you ready to go to hell? ;) what a tour that will be, metal till you BURN!)

Roger Daltrey Says The Who Better Than The Beach Boys

Roger Daltrey says The Who were better than The Beach Boys

By Music-News.com, Tim Cashmere

Roger Daltrey reckons The Who's vocal harmonies were better than The Beach Boys'.

The singer with the legendary 'My Generation' rockers performed a solo concert at London's Royal Albert Hall last night (24.03.11), where he paid tribute to the band's late bassist John Entwistle, and joked about being better than the famous Californian group.

Toward the end of his set he said: "Back in the '70s we used to love doing harmonies. The Beach Boys - we s**t on them.

"John always had the loudest voice, he had the voice of an angel."

Adding praise to the British armed forces, he added: "So this is for him and all those guys out there who are sent to terrible places like Afghanistan."

Roger performed The Who's classic 'Tommy' album in full at the concert, bringing the band's guitarist, Pete Townshend, on stage for two tracks at the charity show, raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Pete - who can no longer play full sets with the group because of continuing problems with his hearing- took lead vocals and on 'The Acid Queen' and later played on 'Baba O'Riley'.

John died of a heart attack in Las Vegas in 2002. The band's drummer, Keith Moon, died in 1978 of a prescription drugs overdose.

(Hmmm I don't know 'bout that! I think the Beach Boys harmonies were awesome. When I think of the Who I think of ROCK, loud guitars, bass, drums, and forceful vocals, the power of rock, Roger Daltrey's legendery scream, anthem like songs. That's not to say The Who's harmonies weren't there.)

Brian May - Axl Is Not Difficult

Brian May insists Axl Rose isn't as 'difficult' as people think

By Music-News.com

Although the Guns 'N Roses frontman axed the Queen guitarist's collaborations from his band's 2008 album 'Chinese Democracy', Brian insists the rocker has always been "attentive", and says people shouldn't think less of him because of his past decision.

He said: "People think of Axl as difficult, but he was always very attentive to me."

The musician explained that even though he worked with Guns 'N Roses on some of the album tracks only to find his work was cut when the record was finally released, he was still very much involved in the album's creation.

He said: "I flew out to meet him and he played me pretty much the whole album. We had a long night, talking, thinking, figuring out potential directions, and then I had a couple of days just trying things out.

"I think I played on two-and-a-half tracks, but they didn't end up using my parts. They used about 10 guitarists subsequent to that!"

However, Brian has no hard feelings, saying he will never release the original recordings out of respect for Axl.

He explained Uncut magazine: "I have rough mixes of these tracks somewhere in my archive, but I'm not going to let anyone listen to them, out of loyalty to Axl.

"It was fun, to throw something in there to help out a friend."

(Brian may - Now that's what I call a man with class & a good friend, someone you can trust.)

Freddie Mercury And Michael Jackson Collaborations Coming

Freddie Mercury And Michael Jackson Collaborations Coming

By Andrew Tijs

Three early-‘80s tracks recorded by Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson will see the light of day.

NME spoke to Queen’s Roger Taylor, who is currently working on the songs for release in the near future.

Taylor said, “We are now working on some never before released songs that Freddie made with Michael in the early-'80s. I'm not allowed to say too much about it, but they sound incredible."

The first was a demo for the Jackson and Mick Jagger collaboration 'State Of Shock', which was eventually released in 1984.

The two other tracks – 'Victory' and 'There Must Be More To Life Than This' – were previously going to be released in 2002 but it never eventuated.

(There always seems to be left over recordings somewhere that get released after artists die & at times these recordings are quite good. I know most fans of any artist want anything and everything from said artist that can be unearthed to be released. This Freddie Mercury/Michael Jackson collaboration sounds very interesting.)

Roger Waters Reissues 'The Wall' Concert

Roger Waters Reissues 'The Wall' Concert

By Music-News.com, Tim Cashmere

Roger Waters' seminal concert of The Wall before a live audience of 250,000 in Berlin and international live broadcast viewership of ½ billion is, arguably, the greatest concert event in history.

Staged on vacant terrain between Potsdamer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate in the wake of the fall of the Berlin Wall, it marks a momentous cultural and political landmark. Roger is taking a new production of The Wall on tour across Europe from March and to celebrate Universal Music are proud to present a repackaged, limited deluxe combo edition of the DVD and 2-CD live album.

'30 years ago when I wrote The Wall, I was a frightened young man. Well, not that young, I was 36 years old. It took me a long time to get over my fears. Anyway, in the intervening years it has occurred to me that maybe the story of my fear and loss with its concomitant inevitable residue of ridicule, shame and punishment, provides an allegory for broader concerns: nationalism, racism, sexism, religion, whatever! All these issues and 'isms are driven by the same fears that drove my young life.' (Roger Waters, 2010)

In the UK the new production of The Wall will be performed at London's O2 Arena on six nights in May from the 11th to 18th, followed by two nights at the Manchester Evening News Arena on the 20th and 21st. It will return to the UK for a date at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena on 27th June with one more date at the Manchester Evening News Arena on 28th June.

Green Day Live Album on Vinyl?

Green Day’s Live Album To Come Out On Vinyl

By Andrew Tijs

Green Day’s excitably-titled new album will come out on double pink vinyl with an exclusive tee-shirt.

The album, Awesome As Fuck, will be released on pink 180-gram double gatefold vinyl by Adeline Records on April 26.

The package will also include an exclusive tee-shirt, all available for pre-order at Adeline’s online store here.

The band recorded all the shows on their 21st Century Breakdown Tour and selected the best performances for the 17-track live album from places as disparate as Berlin, Brisbane, Glasgow and Dallas.

There will be an accompanying DVD shot in Tokyo and the iTunes version will feature two bonus tracks.

The CD and DVD pack will be released through Reprise on March 22.

(How do you like the album's title? Vinyl? How many people will buy a turntable to play the new album? Good thing they also will release it on CD and on iTunes. I know that vinyl records have a more warm sound to them and the artwork on albums is great, but I can only imagine the vinyl record is being marketed to the vinyl collectors out there. I was sad when albums became dinosaurs in the music world but now seems they're a collector piece, glad I still have a turntable ;O & albums from yesteryear :) )

Garbage Finishing NEW Album

Garbage Finishing Up First Album In Six Years

By Andrew Tijs

Shirley Manson has noted on her Facebook page that Garbage may have a new album “finished by summer”.

Manson wrote a note on her Facebook page to thank fans for supporting her appearance on new track ‘The Hunger’, written by System Of A Down ringleader Serj Tankian for a musical.

She also mentioned that she is back in the studio “with the boys”, presumably the boys from her first love – Garbage – who haven't released an album since 2005's Bleed Like Me.

She said that they are starting to “select tracks for the final collection”, and dared to suggest that they will have something finished by the Northern Hemisphere’s summer, around mid-year.

Here's the post in full.

“Darklings

Many thanks for all your sweet notes about 'The Hunger'.

It's been SUCH a long time since I dipped my toes into the waves and it is always a weird, almost scary feeling.......... like being full of electrical eels in my tummy.........so thankyou for taking the time to write and support the cause!

Back in the studio as of yesterday with the boys.....

We are getting up a nice head of steam as we really start to hone in and select tracks for the final collection.........

Dare I suggest we will have something finished by the summer?!

(This is awesome news for all Shirley Manson/Garbage fans :) It's been a long time since hearing the lovely Shirley's voice & will be most welcomed. She is definitely in my tops for women rockers.)

Alice In Chains Bassist Mike Starr Found Dead

Alice In Chains Ex- Bassist Mike Starr Found Dead

By Andrew Tijs

Mike Starr, the founding bassist for Alice In Chains who had long struggled with addiction, has died.

According to TMZ, Starr was found dead by authorities in a house in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Starr played bass in grunge-metal pioneers Alice In Chains from their beginning, leaving the band during the touring engagements following the release of their breakthrough 1992 album Dirt.

Singer Layne Staley told Rolling Stone in 1994 that Starr left the band due to “a difference in priorities. We wanted to continue intense touring and press, Mike was ready to go home.”

Layne Staley was found dead in 2002 following a long battle with heroin addiction and Starr also struggled with drug addiction.

Starr appeared in VH1 reality TV series Celebrity Rehab last year, declaring himself six months sober in a follow-up episode.

He was also arrested on suspicion of felony drug possession in Salt Lake City on February 18 this year.

He was 44.

(So sad when rockstars die this way, but it's hard to stay away from drugs when you're in a life where there is drugs all around you. There is always temptation and they take it. May he rest in peace.)

Hendrix Sales Topped One Million

Jimi Hendrix Sales Topped One Million In 2010

By VVN Music , Paul Cashmere

Jimi Hendrix died more than 40 years ago but his music is still selling. In 2010, more than 1 million Hendrix albums were bought by fans.

This year, three more releases have been scheduled for the Hendrix Estate. All will be available on April 12.

First up is a reissue of Power Of Soul: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix, a collection of sixteen performances covering artists both classic and modern. It is the first tribute album to be curated under Hendrix LLC and they assembled quite the roster from Santana, Eric Clapton and Sting to archive tracks from John Lee Hooker and Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble.

The album was originally released on May 4, 2004.

A special vinyl single taken from the album will also be released for record store day featuring tracks by Cee Lo Green, Santana and Robert Randolph & the Slide Brothers.

The track list for the album:

Gratitude - James Al Hendrix
Are You Experienced? - Musiq Soulchild
Spanish Castle Magic - Santana
Purple House - Prince
The Wind Cries Mary - Sting
Voodoo Child (Slight Return) - Earth, Wind & Fire
Power Of Soul - Bootsy Collins (featuring George Clinton & the P-Funk All-Stars)
Burning Of The Midnight Lamp - Eric Clapton
Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland) - Lenny Kravitz
30 Years - James Al Hendrix
Who Knows - Devoted Spirits (featuring George Duke)
Purple Haze - Robert Randolph & The Family Band
Going Home - Velvert Turner
Little Wing - Chaka Khan & Kenny Olson
Castles Made Of Sand - Sounds Of Blackness
May This Be Love - Eric Gales
Foxy Lady - Cee-Lo Green
Red House - John Lee Hooker
Little Wing/3rd Stone From The Sun - Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble.

South Saturn Delta is a reissue of the 1997 album that collects rare tracks from every incarnation of group in which Hendrix played including both versions of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, his expanded Woodstock ensemble Gypsy Sun & Rainbows, and the Band of Gypsys.

There are fifteen tracks on the album, including demos to lost masters. Alongside lost gems as Tax Free, Look Over Yonder, and Pali Gap stand previously unreleased recordings including Here He Comes (Lover Man), Message To The Universe and Midnight Lightning.

The album will be released on CD, digital download and double-12" vinyl.

The final re-release will be a DVD of Jimi Hendrix: Band of Gypsys (Live at Fillmore East), the Grammy award winner for Best Long Form Video of 1999. The 83-minute documentary includes interviews with Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell, Noel Redding, Billy Cox and Buddy Miles with additional comments from Lenny Kravitz, Vernon Reed and Slash. The concert footage is the only known footage of the group in concert, including Jimi's stunning and devastating performance of Machine Gun.

The new edition of the DVD also has previously unseen bonus features, new stereo and 5.1 mixes and additional footage of performances of Foxy Lady, Power Of Soul, Stepping Stone and Who Knows.

Legacy's first round of Jimi Hendrix releases opened with the release of Valleys of Neptune, a long-awaited album of previously unavailable Jimi Hendrix studio recordings, which debuted on the Billboard 200 best-selling albums chart at #4 while four additional Hendrix catalog titles (Are You Experienced (#44), Electric Ladyland (#60), First Rays of the New Rising Sun (#63), and Axis: Bold As Love (#67)) rocketed back into the Billboard 200 four decades after their original release dates. A testimony to the enduring vitality and importance of the trailblazing artist-guitarist-performer, Jimi Hendrix had five albums in America's Top 100 in March 2010.

The second wave of 2010 Jimi Hendrix titles culminated in the long awaited release of West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology, a definitive career-spanning four CD box set tracking Hendrix's remarkable journey from R&B sideman to international stardom. The deluxe set is filled with previously unreleased Jimi Hendrix Experience recordings plus demos, alternate takes and more. The newly curated and assembled Jimi Hendrix anthology will include a new Hendrix documentary directed by the Grammy award winning Bob Smeaton (Beatles Anthology, Festival Express, Beatles: The Studio Recordings).

(This article says it all, the classics always live on. Jimi Hendrix may be gone but his essence, his art, his music will always live on, it's his legacy. Same is true of Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, The Beatles etc. Their music lives on for another generation to discover and enjoy.)

Dio Tribute Album

Ronnie James Dio Tribute To Feature Grohl, Halford, Lemmy
By Andrew Tijs

A tribute album to the late, great metal singer Ronnie James Dio looks to have a star-studded line-up.

Ronnie’s widow Wendy Dio has revealed to Noisecreep an enviable list of contributors for a forthcoming tribute to the Black Sabbath and Dio singer.

She confirms Judas Priest’s Rob Halford, Deep Purple’s Glenn Hughes, Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl, Motorhead’s Lemmy, Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach, Fozzy’s Chris Jericho and Alice Cooper.

She suggested that Grohl will take on Black Sabbath’s ‘Mob Rules’ and Halford will have a crack at ‘Long Live Rock N’ Roll’.

Dio confirmed that the album “probably won't come out this year, but everybody signed up. Even today they were picking songs for which songs they're gonna do.”

She said she is going to fund the album through an auction of Dio memorabilia.

(Always nice especially if it's done really well. Dave Grohl always seems up for playing with great musicians & tributes.)
