CBGB Movie Coming
By VVN Music
With all the music bio films that are being made, you start to wonder if there is room for one more, but the latest from Randall Miller and Jody Savin is a bit different.
It's the biography of CBGB, the legendary New York club that gave the first major exposure to artists like Talking Heads, the Ramones, Patti Smith and Blondie.
Miller and Savin, who are also currently working on a biopic of Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson, have said that the movie will "center on the real-life story of Hilly Kristal’s CBGB club and its impact on the underground music scene."
The pair talked with Sight on Sound:
“This is a film about an era of music, about a place that I hung out at in New York in the early ’80s and about an unsung champion of new music,” Savin said.
Miller added: “(Jody) knows everything I do as a filmmaker, but she adds a love for New York and an ear for this time and place.
Miller and Savin are co-writing the untitled film with Savin making her directorial debut. They are both producing through their Unclaimed Freight Productions.
(Cool,...I think that time in the New York music punk scene was an exciting one and a movie will be great to see!)
