John Lennon Coined By Royal Mint
By Paul Cashmere

Paul McCartney may be the only Beatle to be knighted but John Lennon has become the first Beatle to be coined. The Royal Mint has issued a commemorative John Lennon £5 coin.

The Royal Mint website states, “John Lennon - inspiring, controversial, passionate and complex. He is, without doubt, one of the great musical giants of the twentieth century. He left a legacy that goes far beyond the global reach of his music. His powerful message of peace and love which manifests through his artistic talent continues to uplift and inspire us”.

The coin features a portrait of Lennon with a cameo inset bearing his guitar strings.

It is made from .925 sterling silver and comes in a display case with Certificate of Authenticity. It weighs 28.28 grams and is 38.61mm in diameter.

Only 5,000 of the coins have been produced. It retails for

£44.99.
