Hendrix on Top

Jimi Hendrix Debuts Top 5

by Paul Cashmere - March 18 2010

Almost 40 years after his death, Jimi Hendrix is one of the hottest acts on the planet.

The album ‘Valleys of Neptune’, featuring previously unreleased Hendrix material, has debuted Top 5 in the USA with sales of more than 85,000 units in a single week.

The new Hendrix album is the first via the new deal Experience Hendrix, the family company governing the Hendrix catalogue, has done with Sony Music.

‘Valleys of Neptune’ is the first of many new Hendrix albums to be released over the next 10 years. Janie Hendrix, CEO of the company and Jimi’s sister, told Undercover News that Jimi never went anywhere without a recording device and captured everything he did on tape, including rehearsals and shows as well as studio material.

She also tells us that Jimi never played the same song twice, so from the 110 songs in the catalogue there are many times more tracks based on the different versions of songs.

Jimi Hendrix ‘Valleys of Neptune’ will have a Top 5 debut later this week when the official figures are released by SoundScan.

(It's always great to be able to hear stuff from classic rock artists that you never heard finally come out! Sales indicate that people still want to hear from classic rock artists no matter how far into the future it is. Why, because classic rock is just that, classic and today's music can't seem to compare.)
