Hendrix Our Main Attraction

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970) was an American musician, singer, songwriter, guitarist, and cultural icon. Widely lauded by music fans and critics alike, Hendrix is considered by many to be the most influential electric guitarist in rock music history. He achieved worldwide fame in 1967, then headlined the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival before his tragic death in 1970 at the age of twenty-seven.

A self-taught musician, the left-handed Hendrix played a right-handed Fender Stratocaster guitar turned upside down and re-strung to suit him. As a rock guitarist, Hendrix exploited and integrated the sonic tools of feedback and distortion into his music to an extent that previous pioneers (such as The Kinks' Dave Davies, The Yardbirds' Jeff Beck and The Who's Pete Townshend) had never achieved. He built upon the innovations and influence of blues stylists such as B.B. King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, T-Bone Walker, and Muddy Waters, as well as rhythm and blues and soul guitarists like Curtis Mayfield, and the traditions of jazz. Hendrix was also inspired by rock pioneer Little Richard, having toured in Richard's back-up band "The Upsetters" before forming his own group in 1966. [1]

Hendrix strived to combine what he called "earth", a blues, jazz, or funk driven rhythm accompaniment, with "space", the high-pitched psychedelic sounds created by his guitar improvisations. He also integrated instruments rarely used in rock, such as the harpsichord, recorder, and glockenspiel. As a record producer, Hendrix was an innovator in using the recording studio as an extension of his musical ideas: he was notably one of the first to experiment with stereophonic and phasing effects during the recording process. Hendrix was also an accomplished songwriter whose compositions have been performed by countless artists.

Jimi Hendrix was inducted into the US Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. His star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (at 6627 Hollywood Blvd.) was dedicated in 1994. In 2006, his debut album Are You Experienced was inducted into the United States National Recording Preservation Board's National Recording Registry. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine named Hendrix number one on their list of the "100 greatest guitarists of all time".

Bowie Joins Gilmour

David Bowie Joins David Gilmour Onstage

DAVID BOWIE stunned fans in London last night (29MAY06), when he joined DAVID GILMOUR onstage to sing two PINK FLOYD songs. Bowie appeared during an encore at the end of the first of Gilmour's three-night run at the Royal Albert Hall, to make his first UK appearance in nearly two years. After helping Gilmour sing ARNOLD LAYNE and COMFORTABLY NUMB, the Pink Floyd fan was given a standing ovation. Bowie wasn't the only star to help Gilmour - DAVID CROSBY and GRAHAM NASH sang on the title track of the singer's new album ON AN ISLAND and joined him on Pink Floyd's SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND and their own hit FIND THE COST OF FREEDOM.

That must have been cool to witness. Hope we all get to see that on the coming DVD, that Gilmour is suppose to release of these Royal Albert Hall show.
Bowie has always liked Pink Floyd he did years ago See Emily Play.

Plant Returns to Rockfield 25 Yrs Later

BBC NEWS | UK | Wales | South East Wales | Zep singer returns to solo roots

The former Led Zeppelin frontman returned to Rockfield, near Monmouth, to mark the 25th anniversary of his debut album after the group broke up.

He was reunited with guitarist Robbie Blunt and keyboard player Jez Woodruffe for a book on the studio.

The visit was arranged by journalist Jeff Collins, who is compiling a history of the studio, which was founded in the mid-1960s by brothers Kingsley and Charles Ward.

Plant, 57, recalled how he arrived at Rockfield 25 years ago this week, in the wake of Zeppelin's split following the death of the band's drummer John Bonham.

But he told Collins he had not been sure he would make the transition from globe-trotting rock star to a musician with a solo career.

He said: "As far as expectation went, I mean at the age of 32 when your career is finished, anything that came after that was a bonus really.

But it was Plant's decision to record at Rockfield which gave the studios enhanced credibility with generations of musicians, said Jeff Collins.

He said: "Of all the artists that have worked there, the person most talked about is Robert Plant, having been in one of the world's biggest and most successful bands.

"A lot of musicians have seen that his albums were recorded at Rockfield and thought, 'if it was good enough for him, it's good enough for me'."

Plant's 2006 schedule includes gigs in Milan and the USA at the end of May and June and a one-off performance with former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page at the Montreux festival in July.

Hope Robert gets in the studio again and start recording another magnificent record soon.

Axl Rose New Guns N' Roses Album Soon

USATODAY.com - Axl Rose confirms new Guns N' Roses album coming soon

"Rock recluse Axl Rose made a surprise radio appearance to proclaim that Guns N Roses 10-years-in-the-making Chinese Democracy album will finally hit store shelves this fall.
The comments Saturday on Eddie Trunk's syndicated radio show marked the first interview the painfully private Rose has given since his failed 2002 comeback tour, which was abruptly scrapped midway amid riots and canceled shows.
Roses impromptu appearance came when former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach, who was co-hosting the show, called Rose's cellphone and patched the call through the studio. "

10 years in the making, hmm it better be good and hope it does come out this fall, but we'll see.

Nick Mason to join Roger Waters at Hyde Park Calling - so now that's half of Pink Floyd!

Nick Mason to join Roger Waters at Hyde Park Calling - so now that's half of Pink Floyd!

Hyde Park Calling, which is happening on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd July at London's Hyde Park, have just announced a rather special drummer will be playing with Roger Waters.

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason will join Roger Waters at his Hyde Park Calling show on Saturday 1st July, and Mason will play drums on Waters’ performance of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ which is part of the show.

Mason is the only member of Pink Floyd who has remained with the band since its beginning in 1965 and has played on every Pink Floyd album including, of course, the 1973 epic ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’.

So now all they need is Gilmour and Wright to show up and we're in the Pink again :)

Keith Richards Fall

Keith Richards is recovering from a concussion after falling out of a tree in Fiji last week. Richards was climbing the tree while on vacation and he was taken to a New Zealand hospital after his fall. Fans gathered outside the hospital on Sunday, and New Zealand's TV3 reported that Richards' wife Patti was seen carrying clothes into the hospital while a security guard carried in three guitar cases.

I think once you get to be around Keith Richards' age you really have to watch what you do. I mean what was he doing climbing that tree anyhow. He should be lounging with a drink in hand, not playing around in some tree like tarzan. Hope he recovers from his fall and his head is fine.
