Empire State Building Lit in Red, Green and White to Honor St. David, Patron Saint of Wales

NEW YORK, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- What do actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant, Sony chairman Howard Stringer and actor Anthony Hopkins have in common? All were born in Wales, and on March 1, they are likely to be wearing daffodils in honor of St. David's Day, a sixth century bishop and patron saint of Wales.
In New York on March 1, daffodils and red dragons will abound around town, as the Welsh community in New York celebrates St. David and Dylan Thomas, Wales' most famous poet, with weeklong events that include lighting the Empire State Building in red, green and white, the colors of Wales.

Be sure to wear some Daffs in your hair March 1.

Sex Pistols Blast HoF

BostonHerald.com - Music News & Reviews: Hall of Fame? A Rotten idea! Pistols refuse to pony up dough for award show

The Sex Pistols, due to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month, fired off a nasty missive yesterday, refusing to appear at the induction ceremony in New York.

The seminal British punk band released a handwritten statement through its publicist and its Web site (thefilthandthefury.co.uk) blasting the Hall of Fame for asking the Pistols to pay $25,000 for a table or “$15,000 to squeak up in the gallery,” at the event.

Peppered with misspellings, the message likens the Hall of Fame museum to “urine in wine” and “a load of old famous.”

“Were (sic) not coming,” the band wrote. “Were (sic) not your monkeys and so what?”

Ever the Punks :) good going Pistols!! That's a lot of dough to fork over!! So with Sabbath not performing, The Sex Pistols not showing up, the whole show will be just Blondie's and Skynyrd's. Wonder what Debbie Harry will say if anything about the Pistols.

GILMOUR I COULD HAVE TOURED WITHOUT WATERS

PINK FLOYD - GILMOUR I COULD HAVE TOURED WITHOUT WATERS

LATEST: PINK FLOYD legend DAVID GILMOUR was offered a fortune to tour after the band's feted Live 8 appearance - with or without bandmate ROGER WATERS.

The pair have had an acrimonious relationship since the COMFORTABLY NUMB stars split in 1983.

They were offered a massive paycheque to reunite for a final tour following their brief reunion at the charity extravaganza last year (05) - but Gilmour insists he was the main attraction for promoters, not Waters.

He says, "We were offered a lot of money to go on tour. And I did turn it down.

"The offer was made to tour with a lot of money, and it was with or without Roger.

Okay can someone tell me what is it with David Gilmour lately? He seems so pissy when it comes to the topic of Pink Floyd. I always thought it was Roger that had that pissy attitude and I always thought that it was David that was the nice one. Now it seems he's the one with all the attitude. Rock stars you gotta love em.

Guns n' Roses New Album

Guns N' Roses--will release a new album this year. At
least that is what Axl Rose told Rolling Stone at
KoRn's party on Friday the 13th where they announced
their upcoming tour. "People will hear music this
year," Axl told the magazine. "It's a very complex
record. I'm trying to do something different. Some of
the arrangements are kind of like Queen. Some people
are going to say, 'It doesn't sound like Axl Rose, it
doesn't sound like Guns N' Roses.' But you'll like at
least a few songs on there." Axl also said the band is
working on 32 songs for Chinese Democracy, 26 of which
are done. Only 13 will make the final cut. In related
news, Slash recently told WMMR/Philadelphia's Matt
Cord that he heard Chinese Democracy will drop in
March, though he has not spoken to Axl directly in
years.

So this is coming soon if we are to believe Axl this time.

How Many More Times, Jimmy Page Figure

Frolix-8: How Many More Times

The legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist is immortalized in plastic for the first time...Item is due to ship by Early June, 2006...We are unable to guarantee the availability of limited edition Advance Order items....In rare circumstances the supplier may not deliver a full order to us...

LOL a plastic Jimmy Page, LOL! Wonder if there will also be a Robert, Bonzo and JPJ. I've seen before a toy company saying they were going to reproduce Zep dolls and they never end up to be available. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for this one to materialize either.

Waters To Do Dark Side

Drowned in Sound - News - No Floyd, but Waters will do Dark Side at Roskilde

Roger Waters will be doing the classic Dark Side of the Moon at Roskilde Festival.

So this is what we get...Gilmour don't want a big Floyd to do, Roger don't want Gilmour to get the limelight. Rog says Dave won't do it, so I will give the fanatics something to talk about. What we really, really want is all 4 to do it. Can't you guys do it for us just one last time?

Live At The Marquee!

Live at The Marquee!

Author: Chris Meehan

The relationship between performers and venues played is vital
in establishing the reputation or, indeed, credibility of a
given group or musician. Think of The Cotton Club and the Jazz
greats like Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway and Louis Armstrong
that consolidated their legendary status here.

The mystique of a club, the vibe of an underground venue (at the
cutting edge of music fashion) the roughness of a dive, the
opulence of a casino, the smokiness of a Jazz joint can all add
to the mythology of those who?ve played there. The destination
of choice for up and coming musicians in London, with an eye for
the big time and rock immortality, has since the late fifties
always been the iconic Marquee Club.

The club came into being in 1958; the birthplace: 165 Oxford
Street. This was the dawning of the ?Swinging Sixties?, when
post-war austerity was morphing into something much brighter,
with an emerging and dynamic youth culture - which was more
hedonistic, less repressed and more fashion-conscious than
previous generations had known. Changing economic patterns also
meant that the young had opportunities, like never before, and a
disposable income, which fuelled a consumer boom and an
explosion in music and fashion. At the epicentre was the
Marquee, banging out a combustible mix of Jazz, Rhythm and
Blues.

The Rolling Stones, the very incarnation of the loved-up,
psychedelic sixties, launched their assault on the world by
playing one of their earliest gigs at The Marquee in July 1962.
Names such as Clapton, The Yardbirds and The Animals became
regulars here, cementing both their fame and fortune and the
status of the club as a key landmark of ?Swinging? London.

The roll call of artists that rocked the Marquee throughout the
60s and 70s reads like a Who?s Who of the most dazzling stars in
rock?s bright firmament. These include: Hendrix, Bowie, The Who,
Yes, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Genesis, to name but a few.

The late 70s saw the anarchic emergence of Punk as an
irresistible musical and social force. A deep well of
attitude-fuelled creativity was dramatically uncovered, which
redefined the music scene. The Marquee was at the forefront of
this new wave and hosted the likes of The Clash, The Damned, The
Sex Pistols, Generation X and Siouxie and the Banshees. The Jam,
The Undertones and The Cure also unleashed their unique brand of
music here.

The 80s had a heavy synth-flavour about them, and the club once
again tapped into the new mood and became a meeting point for
British Synth-Pop and the New Wave scene, featuring such
luminaries as Depeche Mode and New Order.

The location of the Marquee, like the music it?s hosted, has
been through a number of changes. From its Oxford Street
beginnings it then migrated, in 1964, to the address that became
synonymous with the club and a hallowed destination for legions
of Marquee devotees. This, of course, was 90 Wardour Street
Soho. In the 80s it relocated to 105 Charing Cross and in
September 2002 it was transplanted to Islington by the
ex-Eurythmics, Dave Stuart ? though, this latest venture had
limited success. The club now resides in Leicester Square and
long may it continue blazing as a beacon of the London music
scene.

CANOE -- JAM! Music: Stapp arrested at LA airport

CANOE -- JAM! Music: Stapp arrested at LA airport

One day after reportedly getting married, former Creed lead singer Scott Stapp was arrested for investigation of being drunk at Los Angeles International Airport.

Stapp was taken into custody by airport police at 6 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol, airport spokesman Tom Winfrey said Monday.

He was booked and released on $250 bail from an area jail the same day, Winfrey said.

Winfrey did not know what drew the attention of police to Stapp.

Telephone messages seeking comment from Stapp's publicist, Dvora Vener Englefield, were not immediately returned Monday.

Stapp, 32, married former Miss New York Jaclyn Nesheiwat on Friday night in Miami, with his seven-year-old son Jagger as best man, People magazine reported on its website.

The guy can't seem to stay out of trouble lately!

Vault Radio Concerts

Vintage T-Shirts, Rock Posters, Concert T-Shirts, Concert Posters, Rock T-Shirts, Concert Shirt, Music Memorabilia, Concert Tees

Bill Graham and his concert promotion company, Bill Graham Presents, produced more than 35,000 concerts all over the world. His first venue, the legendary Fillmore Auditorium, was home to many of rock's greatest performers - Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Prince - and the list goes on and on.

Graham taped thousands of live performances and stored the tapes in the basement of the BGP headquarters.

These tapes and the concerts they captured lay dormant until the Bill Graham archive was acquired by Wolfgang's Vault (Bill Graham's given first name was Wolfgang) in 2003.

Vault Radio is now playing selected tracks from these concerts in an FM-quality, 128K digital radio stream. Songs will be added to and removed from the radio show on a regular basis. We will be broadcasting unaltered live performance music from many of the greatest bands of the last 40 years. The music you hear on Vault Radio has not been sweetened or polished. You'll be listening to what the band played that night - nothing more, nothing less.
This is the real thing and we hope you enjoy it. If you like the music or would like us to add other bands to the playlist, let us know through Feedback.

Cheers!

Is this cool or what?!!

Guitars Are HOT!

Guitars Of The Stars - Forbes.com

Just how important are guitars to the rock 'n' roll image? "Incredibly important," says Michael Molenda, editor in chief of Guitar Player magazine. "When rock 'n' roll was young in the 1950s and '60s, performers gravitated to whatever they could borrow or afford. But when the music hit its stride, just the fact that guys like Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Richie Blackmore held certain guitars made them iconic."

Of course, just because you own a white Stratocaster doesn't mean you're going to jam like Jimi Hendrix--even if you string it in reverse and play it left-handed. "There's an old adage that a lot of the talent comes through the fingers," adds Molenda. "A guitarist is going to sound like himself whether he's playing on his own equipment or on yours."

"A guitar is an extension of the hands--not too dissimilar from what a conductor has with a baton. That's such a significant service that, once you've shared that transforming experience on stage, you can't help but develop a personal relationship with your guitar."

Gotta agree with all this, guitars are what makes ROCK HOT!! Add a little bass, drums and some keyboards and you got it going on.
