PINK FLOYD #1 in Poll

PINK FLOYD - PINK FLOYD TOP GREATEST ROCK ACT POLL

PINK FLOYD have beaten out competition from LED ZEPPELIN and THE ROLLING STONES to be named the world's greatest rock act of all time.

The WISH YOU WERE HERE band were one of four British groups in the top five, voted for in a poll carried out by UK digital radio station Planet Rock.

Led Zeppelin came second, while The Rolling Stones came third.

Rounding out the top five were THE WHO and Australian veterans AC/DC.

The Top 10 Greatest Rock Acts Of All Time are:

1. PINK FLOYD

2. LED ZEPPELIN

3. THE ROLLING STONES

4. THE WHO

5. AC/DC

6. U2

7. GUNS N' ROSES

8. NIRVANA

9. BON JOVI

10. JIMI HENDRIX.

The Floyd interest grows...hmm could it be that because they performed recently there is more interest than in Led Zeppelin, who have not done anything together since very long ago (due to Bonham's death and they not wanting to perform without the original line up). To me Floyd and Zeppelin are tied in popularity, though I tend to believe there is more Zep love out there at least I see that at my store Mystic Rock.

Wray "The Real Man In Black"

Fredericksburg.com - Fredericksburg offered up fertile spot for rock's roots: "'The Real Man In Black,'"

Pete Townshend of The Who has been quoted as saying of Wray: "He is the king. If it hadn't been for Link Wray and 'Rumble,' I would never have picked up a guitar."

And Neil Young has said, "If I could go back in time and see just one band, it would be Link Wray and His Ray Men."

Others influenced by "Rumble" include Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie and Jeff Beck.

Johnny Cash emulated the tough-guy image of Wray--who was half Shawnee--by dressing in black, as he did.

To this day, Wray fans insist he was "The Real Man In Black," not Cash. During a clean-cut, squeaky-clean era, he dressed in black leather jackets, wore sunglasses at night and smoked cigarettes onstage.

"He was very influential because he did something different and he did it with a bit of an attitude," Del Fiorentino said. "Most people could relate to that, I think."

Few remember that guitar legend Link Wray, who died Nov. 5 at 76, was inspired to record his seminal instrumental 1958 song "Rumble" by a request during a dance in Fredericksburg.

The primal sound called the power chord was introduced by "Rumble," and it has echoed for 47 years, influencing generations of rock guitarists.

The Who, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles probably would never have been heard from if it were not for that night in Fredericksburg, said Dan Del Fiorentino, historian for the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, Calif.

Link Wray pioneered the power chord at a Fredericksburg dance.

"Without the power chord, punk rock and heavy metal would not exist," he told The Free Lance-Star.

All hail to the power chord :) and thank you Link Wray!

Pink Floyd's Waters Open To Idea Of Reunion

KETV.com - Entertainment - Pink Floyd's Waters Open To Idea Of Reunion

LONDON -- Roger Waters would not immediately say no if Pink Floyd decided to do something more.

"I'd be very up for doing a lot more," Waters told Britain's X-FM.

Waters said reuniting with Pink Floyd for Live 8 was "such fun."

He said the moment they plugged in for their first rehearsal, "It was like putting on an old shoe."

The bassist apparently has had a change of heart since Live 8.

In July, right after Live 8, Waters called the chances of furthering the Pink Floyd reunion "very slight."

Enough with the teasin' already Roger, 1st he says no reunion, highly unlikely, now it's, well it would be nice, I wouldn't say no right away. So which is it? Oh yeah then it's Gilmours turn to chime in and tease, saying, oh I can't do a reunion now, I have a solo album to work on etc. So if it isn't Roger it's David...if only they could agree on things, the show would be on the road, cause Mason and Wright would be okay with it. Come on boys one last tour!

Punk, Metal Pioneers Honored

CBS News | Punk, Metal Pioneers Honored | November 28, 200512:00:07

(AP) Black Sabbath, Miles Davis and the Sex Pistols are among five musical legends to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation will hold its induction ceremony March 13 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan, the organization announced Monday.

Also to be inducted into the class of 2006: 1980s New Wave band Blondie and Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd.

It's finally Blondies turn to be recognized for what they contributed to the New Wave/Punk movement, glad they made it, should have been given to them earlier! I knew it would be Blondies turn when last year The Pretenders were given the nod.

Unearthed New Zep Photos!

When Led Zep rocked the Cross and no one noticed - Arts - Entertainment

RUMMAGING through some old boxes one day, Ted Harvey, a freelance photographer, found some photos he had almost forgotten: more than 100 intimate shots of Led Zeppelin he had taken during their 1972 Australian tour.

"It gave me a bit of a shock," Harvey said.

The photographs, which have never been seen by anyone except Harvey and the band, will go on display at a charity exhibition at Lismore Regional Gallery today.

Finding the photos brought back memories of the Sydney Showgrounds concert, which took place on February 27, 1972. Harvey simply drove his van behind the stage and walked around to the front, bypassing the crowd control barrier.

"There was officially 28,000 people there but really it was more like 36,000," said Harvey, adding that he could not see any other press photographers around him.

"When they played The Immigrant Song, the crowd just jumped over the barrier and ran to the stage. I got stuck and I couldn't move around. Robert Plant just told the crowd to sit down and they did, but I stood up because I was there to take photos."

The next day, Harvey visited the band at their Elizabeth Bay hotel to give them some of the shots he'd taken.

"Then Robert said, 'Let's go for a walk', so we wandered out to the Cross and he started singing at the top of his voice. I thought, 'Oh no, people are going to notice', but no one really turned around. That's the Cross for you," said Harvey.

"There was an old dumped Plymouth car that had a Viking's head as its emblem. Robert whipped out his pocket knife and tried to get the head off. I thought 'Oh jeez, the police are going to come over and see these two long-haired guys attacking this car. But he couldn't get it off so he said 'I'll get the chauffeur to come down and get it off'."

Lismore Regional Gallery's director, Steven Alderton, said he was impressed by the artistic and historical merit of the photographs.

"Compositionally they are great images and they hold the presence of the moment," he said. "Although my first thought was certain people should buy jeans a few sizes bigger."

Now if only they can make some of those just discovered images of Zeppelin posters!! Nothing would please more than that :) for us long time Zep fans.

OZZYHEAD.COM NEWS - Black Sabbath To Be Inducted Into (US) Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

OZZYHEAD.COM NEWS - Black Sabbath To Be Inducted Into (US) Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Black Sabbath To Be Inducted Into (US) Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
According to Tony Iommi's official site (Iommi.com), Black Sabbath will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at the Twenty-First Annual Induction Ceremony in New York next March. There are plans to broadcast an edited version of the ceremony on VH-1.

Ozzy Osbourne attempted to take Black Sabbath's name off the Hall of Fame's 1999 nomination list, deeming the institution's nod "meaningless."

In an October 1999 letter to the Hall of Fame, Osbourne said: "Just take our name off the list. Save the ink. Forget about us. The nomination is meaningless, because it's not voted on by the fans. It's voted on by the supposed elite for the industry and the Media, who've never bought an album or concert ticket in their lives, so their vote is irrelevant to me." He says, "Let's face it, BLACK SABBATH has never been media darlings. We're a people's band and that suits us just fine."

Black Sabbath became eligible for induction for in 1996.

I agree with Ozzy, Sabbath was a people's band same as Zeppelin was.

The Black Crowes Rockin' New Year's Eve

The Black Crowes Announce Their First-Ever Headlining Performance At Madison Square Garden On New Year's Eve

2005 marked the year in which THE BLACK CROWES reunited and re-connected with their loyal fans, performing the best shows of their career. The band--who've been alternately described as "The Most Rock ‘N Roll Rock ‘N Roll Band In The World" and "a thoroughbred American rock ‘n' freakin' roll band"--will culminate this hugely successful year on December 31, 2005 with their first-ever New Year's Eve show at Madison Square Garden in the city where it all began back in March with seven sold-out nights at Hammerstein Ballroom.

One thing I can tell you about the Black Crowes is that they are LOUD and no one sits down at a Crowes show!!!

Audioslave On Rockline

Audioslave will be the featured guests on Rockline's nationally syndicated radio show airing November 14th. The live show begins at 8:30pm PT / 11:30pm ET - and fans are encouraged to call in with questions during the program at (800) 344-ROCK (7625).

To find a station near you check out www.rocklineradio.com

I wonder if fans like Chris Cornell with Audioslave as much as they liked him with Soundgarden. There's something about his voice in Soundgarden that to me seemed like he had more power, what a voice! Glad that Audioslave is doing some Soundgarden songs as well at shows :)

ROBERT PLANT Dismisses ZEPPELIN Reunion Talk: 'I Prefer My Career To Have Bit Of Dignity Now'

BLABBERMOUTH.NET - ROBERT PLANT Dismisses ZEPPELIN Reunion Talk: 'I Prefer My Career To Have Bit Of Dignity Now'

Plant, 57, who plays Edinburgh Corn Exchange next Thursday and Barrowland in Glasgow on October 29, said: "I've not been offered vast sums to reform LED ZEPPELIN. I would never do it anyway.

"We were a boy band and I'm not a boy any more. I prefer my career to have a bit of dignity now."

So be it...though most fans would gladly plunk down the cash to see the great bands of yesteryear. Zep, Floyd, Stones, Sabbath etc.

Deborah Harry & Blondie Monaco Interview & Clip

Musical breaks, world music festivals Music for 2

You were at Woodstock, and then at the centre of a very exciting period in New York, when bands like Blondie, the Ramones and Talking Heads broke through; what was it like from the inside looking out?

“Actually it wasn’t received very well at first. It wasn’t something that was embraced wholeheartedly in the business world, or on radio. And for quite a while, we really had an uphill battle. I think it was a very treasured kind of local thing, and at that point, in the very early days, it certainly wasn’t important to other people.
It was just the Lower East Side, and some of the West Village that was aware of what was going on. It was priceless in a way, because people got to experiment and do things without being judged. We were all just paying court visits to one another. Chris says it was like vaudeville, I think it was more like some sort of art exchange, a music exchange.”

This so true in the beginning of the Punk movement they were mostly ignored by the media, unlike today's Punks that are embraced and so mainstream, In the day it was very underground. I was lucky to have known about these artist in those days due to my boyfriend listening to an underground radio show, the late risers club in Boston. I was lucky to have seen Blondie, The Ramones, Patty Smith, 999, The Dickies, Elvis Costello and more that I can't remember right now. So lucky to have been at CBGB's in it's heyday. I'm glad that Blondie is still around and touring and sounding fabulous.

Also the order of the bands listed I don't agree for myself even though yeah I know the Beatles always are everyones #1 spot and they did influence music and the way it has progressed. Personally I'd put The Doors higher on the list. Glad that Pink Floyd is in the number 2 spot :) Zep should have been higher on the list.

Drummer Jason Bonham links up with Foreigner

Daily Record - Music - Drummer Jason Bonham links up with Foreigner

Influenced by American-oriented rock such Toto and Journey, Bonham formed his own band, Air Race when he was 17. He was equally taken with combination British/American rock group Foreigner.

"I was huge into that scene," he said. "It was what we called adult-oriented or American-oriented rock at the time."

Now the fan is a member of the band. Bonham joins Foreigner Oct. 7 at the Community Theatre in Morristown. He credits his friendship with Mick Jones and Foreigner's manager for recruiting him back on the road. "He always looked after my career," he said.

"I just tour for the heck of it," he said. "I don't really have to tour. I'm playing for my love of music. I am blessed and unblessed. I'm blessed by being financially OK and unblessed by losing a father. There were many tragic times but I've come out the other side. It's good to be here."

As for his relationship with Page, contact is infrequent, but Bonham always keeps him in mind as mentor and a link to his Dad.

"It's great to sit and talk to Jimmy ... and ask him certain questions," he said. "This is exactly what my Dad did...."

A recent transplant to the United States, Bonham resides in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with his wife, son and daughter. He and his family moved here in March but keep their house in England.

His son may have inherited the Bonham music gene, but American culture has put it on hold.

"As soon as we moved to America he went off into football and soccer," he said. "My daughter is into cheerleading and unfortunately Coach (a fancy brand of pocketbook)."

I think that Jimmy Page also has a house down in Florida somewhere near that area, maybe it was he who helped Jason get his here in the states. I'm sure Jason will love it here, his kids sure will.

the Pulse - Entertainment Beat: The Machine

the Pulse - Entertainment Beat: The Machine

The public’s love for and appreciation of Pink Floyd’s music hasn’t dulled with time. Every year a new generation finds something in their catalog to identify with, but given the rocky and much publicized history of the band, it becomes less and less likely that the
original members of Pink Floyd will ever tour under that banner again. This is why we need The Machine.

Seeing The Machine isn’t like seeing Pink Floyd, it’s like seeing The Machine. They have an unparalleled audience connection and every member of the band displays incredible musicianship. Every Floyd fan will get a rush when the crowd erupts from the single keyboard note that signals the start of “Echoes,” or when Ryan’s signature bass solo frenzy launches the band into “One of These Days.”

The Machine plays The Palladium on September 24, so catch Pink Floyd the way it was meant to be experienced ~ sight, sound, and shaking floor!

Details

Who:
The Machine
Where:
The Palladium 261 Main Street in Worcester www.thepalladium.net (508) 797-9696

Oh yeah!! What a great band, I've seen them now twice and love their experience. Another Floyd tribute band that deserves a nod is Pink Voyd!! If you haven't caught any of these bands do yourself a favor and get to one of their shows you will NOT be disappointed, that is if you Love Floyd music :) Check out our cool Floyd Merchandise at Mystic Rock

Summer promises many concert highlights

Boston.com / News / Boston Globe / Living / Arts / Summer promises many concert highlights

The scramble to book summer concerts is on. Major acts such as Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones aren't expected until the fall, but the coming months will be flush with tours by Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, Destiny's Child, String Cheese Incident, and classic-rock packages of Boston and Styx, Robert Plant and Jeff Beck, and perhaps Aerosmith and Van Halen.

Imagine that, Robert Plant n Jeff Beck!! If this ends up happening would be quite exciting :)

British Very Musical

What's your favourite thing about the UK?

DebbieHarry: Oh God, I don't know. If there's one thing, it's the musical nature of the British. In America people don't sit around in bars and sing, but I've been in pubs all over the UK where people just break into song. British people are very musical. It's a great tradition.

That's sounds so cool....your sitting having a drink or beer and then everyone starts singing some cool Zep song, LOL. I would love to go to an English Pub!! Sounds like fun :)

Picture This Debbie Harry Bungee Jumping Topless

Archive > Press > Magazines > Now: "DH: I did a bungee jump at the end of a very long and stressful tour. I bungee-jumped topless and it was completely refreshing. It was in Auckland, New Zealand, and it was big. I'd probably do it again if you got me in the mood, but I wouldn't say it was the most sane thing I've ever done."

I can imagine it must of felt exciting and scary....feel the wind all over you. Wonder how many people witness this.
I know Debbie was crazy in her early years, seeing her on stage she was like a wild woman sometimes.

What Does Robert Plant Love The Most

WHEN asked during a 1998 TV interview whether he preferred sex, drugs or rock and roll, Robert Plant, lead singer of the rock group Led Zeppelin, replied without a moment's hesitation: 'Football'. http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/sports/story/0,4136,80898,00.html

Ha!! I know men love sports, well a lot of men do, there is the few exceptions out there. But really Robert prefers a football over women?? This can't be, my dreams are shattered! He'd rather watch or play with a football? Isn't it a soccerball anyhow in England? In anycase, if Robert were to ask me to go with him to watch a game, I'm sure I'd grab my coat in an instant :)
